METRORAIL Accident #40

When will the City Fathers acknowledge that METRO, after using our tax money against us to fight all the way to the Texas Supreme Court so as to disenfranchise voters, has squandered 1/2-billion dollars in precious taxpayer funds on the demented "Demolition Derby" on Main Street?

After all the taxpayer cash which has been spent on our Transit "Backbone" there are still accidents, and they are certain to continue to occur in the future.

The lunacy of the METRO position is being tolerated as no leader wants to suffer criticism from the pro-rail media.

METRO seems to ignore the fact that Houston is certain to earn the dubious distinction of becoming the "Light Rail" accident capital in the world.

The average citizen now understands that it was "STUPID" to build any system that subjects $6-million trams to be halted after colliding with cars. We all are affected in some way each time this expensive transit system is interrupted. These> accidents are wasting the very same precious time METRO officials touted the tram system would save Houstonians by decreasing congestion.

The traffic lights now change RED in all directions a full 15 seconds before the tram reaches the intersection. This accommodation for METRO has driven up the frustration level of folks who must enter the corridor.

What is sad is that METRORail will only become a hungrier "Alligator" relentlessly gobbling larger portions of precious taxpayer subsidies.

Many of us just want our Main Street back. We have now witnessed the danger of allowing unelected, unaccountable central planners access to a continuous stream of sales tax money to squander as they please.

The Houston City Fathers had enough "light rail" before, several decades back, and correctly favored cars over vehicles which are tethered to a wire.

People will no more give up their cars to be forced on the tram than they would give up their cell phones to use hardwired pay telephones.
