Subject: METRORail
Collision #46 - Uncertain Number of Riders
Date: Mon,
21 Jun 2004 08:56:18 -0500
A very astute
gentleman, in the transit business, made the observation that
METRO should not have been so seemingly uncertain as to the number
of riders at the time of the 46th collision.

METRORail Has 46th Accident

KPRC TV NEWS EXCERPT:
None of the 10 to 15 passengers who were on the train at the
time of the accident reported injuries, METRO police told News2Houston.

If, as
the Houston Chronicle reported last week, that the ridership
number seems to have been so closely "counted," each
month, with both automated as well as hand counts, how can there
be such confusion with such a small number of riders? Surely,
METRO allows the employees to use their toes once the sparse
number of riders exceed ten.

MetroRail ridership
held steady in May

:Houston Chronicle Excerpt:
Automatic passenger counters that sense passengers boarding
and leaving trains recorded 14,060 average daily trips last last
month, Metro reported this week. A manual count by Metro employees
got a similar result, indicating that the automatic counters
are working following a period of calibration.
April's
count was 14,043.

This News2
account seems to be further PROOF that METRO has been concocting
ridership numbers from DAY ONE! There is no veracity to the Official METRORail
average daily ridership numbers. One must also note that METRO
has no ability to accurately determine if there is any significant
fare box revenue generated from the Toy Train. Rube Goldberg
is attributed with the following quote "No matter how thin
you slice it, it's still baloney!"
