Subject: METRO
FARE BOX REVENUE CONTINUES TO PLUMMET
Date: Fri,
25 Jun 2004 05:45:32 -0500
Have any of
you wondered why METRO's fare box revenue continues to plummet
in the face of news accounts that there are seemingly spectacular
increases in the ridership of our glorious Main Street tram?
METRO has significantly decreased bus service to the poor
and minority bus transit dependent riders, and has forced the
remaining "sheeple" to be herded onto the Main Street
tram.
One should rather not be surprised that in fact many people just
can not, or will not, waste the additional time it takes for
the additional transfers, as well as the unreliability of the
tram due to a record number of collisions which interrupts this
"third world" type service.
In addition, and reminiscent of some military commanders
in Viet Nam, METRO seems only to want to show an
increase in the "body count" so as to maintain the
illusion of "success" with those in the media. Since
METRO has an ever-increasing, and unending source of sales tax
cash extracted from all of us, there is little motivation to
collect full fares from the riders.
Gee, If only the central planners did achieve Utopia for
Houstonians, the Harris County Toll Road Authority would be expected
to match METRO and implement a similar "give away"
pricing structure.
Just imagine:
First, driving on the toll roads would be on the
honor system, and few cars would be checked; Second, drivers
could get a day pass at any of the ticket booths as they pass
through; or Third, the more economical option, buy a 365
day pass for unlimited trips for just $25.00!
But wait! If you are a student, any one of a myriad
of oppressed or fringe groups, or government employee you
ride "Free!"
