Texas Politics - Complaint against METRORail
Following are the
actual e-mail messages of correspondence of complaint filed about
the alleged violation of the Texas Public Information Act by
METRORail's failure to produce the Daily Ridership Counts for
January 2004, used in the media pro-rail propaganda reports,
of 558,257 tram riders, which
I have requested three times over the past six weeks.
One can only surmise that METRO concocted the ridership numbers,
and that METRORail's ridership announcements have been unchallenged
by their willing accomplices in the press.

Subject: THIRD EMAIL REQUEST - Texas Public Information
Act Request For METRORail's Daily Ridersip Counts for January
2004
It has been reported, and in one of your reply's, that there
were daily hand counts of METRORail riders. Please release
the daily ridership counts, totaling the 558,257 passengers,
to substantiate what was reported by the electronic and
print press. I surmise METRORail simply concocted a large ridership
number which remains unchallenged by some working in the electronic
and print media.

By letter, dated March 5, 2004, METRO responded to your request
for rail log trips. The letter was mailed to PO Box 2786, Houston,
Texas 77252.
Our records show that by email forwarded on February 17, you
requested fare box collections and the method of counting boardings.
By letter dated February 23, METRO submitted information
regarding the method of counting boardings. Fare box information
was forwarded on March 1. These letters were also sent to the
address indicated above. If you have not received this information,
please advise.
We did not understand your previous request as a request for
daily ridership counts. If such information is sought, we will
treat same as another request pursuant to the Texas Public Information
Act, and process accordingly.

Subject: SECOND REQUEST - Texas Public Information Act
Request For METRORail's Complete Log of Tram Trips For January
2004
When I heard of the 24th REPORTED, now TTI-certified safe, train
collision, I was reminded that it has been 15 business days since
I made this specific request for the complete METRORail log of
tram trips made in January 2004. I have received no response
to this request, and have not been notified as to why this
information has not been made available.
Additionally, tomorrow will be the tenth business day for the
e-mail request for the METRORail daily ridership counts for January
2004. I have not received any reply regarding this TXPIA request.
If METRORail did not record this information, why not?
